Back In The Swing

Image
At this point, we are about two weeks into our second semester, and it has been a struggle. On my first day back, I had very simple goals: get through my classes and turn in my paperwork to begin working at Vancrest of Ada, a nursing home less than a mile from campus. I did, in fact, get through my classes, but I couldn't turn my paperwork in as, prior to leaving, I realized I had no idea where it was. I swore that I had put it in my backpack, but it wasn't there. My roommate and I searched the whole dorm and my car, and it was nowhere to be found. This might not seem like too big of an issue, but to work in a nursing home, there's a long list of requirements to check off. I needed a background check done, my fingerprints done, and a physical done at a location that is partnered with Vancrest. I had all of it done, and everything was signed, and then I lost it.      The following day, I went to Vancrest to get a new packet of paperwork, and just my luc...

The 100 Year Woman

Image
Mary Louise (Reinhart) Davis She was born in Alvada, OH, on March 17, 1924, the fifth of eleven children. She married her husband, Charles Davis on April 19, 1945, and they were married for 68 years. Mary loved her family, going to garage sales, playing cards, going anywhere with her loved ones, and attending parties. She never wanted to miss any school activities or events of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a faithful member of Gesu Catholic church for 73 years. On November 23, 2024, Mary passed away at the age of 100. You're probably wondering who this woman is and why she's in my post about the book, "Essentials of Social Media Marketing." Mary Davis is my great-grandma. Her being my grandma doesn't mean much to you, but I want you to think about how much the world has changed over those 100 years. There were no smartphones or internet, computers were people who operated calculating machines, students used slate tablets, and radio broadcasts...

Winter Break Recap!

Image
Where do I start? Winter break was a blast! Between hanging out with high school friends, the hectic holidays, and more family game nights than I can count on my hands, I barely had enough time to catch up on sleep. I started my break off with a bang! Day one: I woke up at the crack of dawn and drove an hour to court for a speeding ticket I had received a few weeks prior. After sitting in the courtroom for over an hour and hearing every single other person's case, I was called to the stand. Just to get slapped with a $250 fine followed by a 2-hour drive home. Not the "bang" I was hoping for, but such as life, I guess. The good news is that break was all uphill from there! My family and I did all our Christmas traditions, like visiting Santa, decorating cookies, and watching every Christmas movie we own. Then Christmas day came along, and I spent all day with my family. We opened gifts throughout the day, and I got a lot of great gifts, including some much-needed ONU merch...
