Weekend With My Bro
My younger brother, Blake, came to campus this past weekend and stayed from Friday to Sunday evening. He's a little less than three years younger than me, so we've always been really close. My mom, brother, and sister met me halfway in Findlay at a restaurant called Cheddar's. We all caught up over dinner, which was really good, and then I took Blake with me, and we headed back to ONU. We made it back to my dorm and had an exciting start to our weekend! He sat on my couch and finished a movie he had started earlier that day while my roommate and I finished homework that was due that night.
We all then went to the C-Store and got some snacks and milkshakes, and this is where it actually got exciting. When we got back to the dorm, we turned on the projector and watched Thanksgiving, a 2023 horror/mystery film. I had already seen it, but both Blake and my roommate hadn't, and I wanted to see their reactions. It's pretty gory, but it really isn't too scary. This being said, my brother doesn't do well with anything remotely scary, so the whole experience was more of a comedy for me than it was scary.
After the movie, we went to bed and got to sleep in until noon. We went to brunch, came back and got showers, then headed to Bluffton to bowl at Southgate Lanes. We only got to bowl two games because it was $30 per hour, and we did not want to pay $60. We then came back to Ada and decided we were hungry, so we drove to Jalapeño. I was excited because not only had Blake never tried Jalapeños before, I hadn't either. I know, it's crazy. How have I been here for a whole semester and not once gotten Jalapeños? Anyways, the food was great! From there, we went to a game store just down the street, and while we were in there, my brother and I spotted a Pokémon card section. Growing up, we loved Pokémon. We collected the cards, and when Pokémon Go came out, we were addicted, so of course, we had to get some. Blake and I went together on a box of cards and came back to the dorm. We dropped off our Pokémon cards and had to quickly leave as there was a student improv show starting minutes after we got back. We all went to the show and actually met up with a friend of mine from high school who's planning on transferring here from OSU next year to major in musical theater. We had a ton of fun at the show, and when we came back, my brother and I got to opening our cards. Out of all the packs of cards, we each only got one good card. I asked my roommate to look up the prices on our cards. He looked up Blake's, and it was worth $33. Hearing this, I got excited, figuring that mine was probably similar in cost, but I couldn't have been further from the truth. My card was only worth $3! At that point, I was annoyed, so I suggested watching a movie, and of course, my roommate wanted to watch another horror movie, and my brother, for some reason, agreed. They decided on The Nun, and let's just say we all didn't sleep for a few hours after the movie.
Then, Sunday came along. We slept in until noon again, got brunch, and then got ready for the day. When we were all ready, we headed to Ada Theater to watch Dog Man. It was definitely a kids movie, but my brother and I read the Dog Man books growing up, so we enjoyed it.
Finally, it was time for Blake to head home. We met our dad and sister and Wendy's. We ate and said goodbye, and that wrapped up my weekend hangout with my bro. It was so much fun and very nostalgic. I couldn't have asked for a better weekend!
Hello Reese, it sounds like you had an amazing weekend with your brother. I liked how you mixed in some nostalgia with the Pokémon cards (Also very big fan of) and Dog Man movie, while also creating new memories with the horror movie laughs. It must’ve been great to catch up with family and enjoy some downtime together. You definitely made the most out of your weekend!
