A Weekend of Frights and Fun
Friday night, I drove to Medina to see my girlfriend, Katelynn, again. We had plans to meet up with some friends and go to the Grafton Haunted School House. I was already pretty scared on the way there because, first of all, I hate haunted houses. Second, our friend Nick, who was riding with us, said it looked like it was going to be scarier than the haunted house we went to a few weeks ago in Columbus. That one was already pretty scary, so I wasn’t exactly excited to find out what we were getting ourselves into.
When we arrived, there was no line, which meant all the scare actors who would normally be scaring people waiting outside were focused entirely on our group. There was a lot of anticipation, but once I walked inside, I could tell the budget was much smaller than the one for Fear Columbus. There were only a handful of actors who would scare us, then quickly have to move to their next positions. Given the budget, the haunted house was by no means bad. I actually got jump-scared twice! However, it came nowhere near Fear Columbus. We still had fun, though, and even talked to one of the actors in the parking lot afterward. We got to hear how the haunted house got started and what they had planned for the future, which was pretty cool.
After the haunted house, we went to a sports bar-type restaurant called Johnny J’s. All the food was good, but their potato skins were amazing! After we ate, we drove back to Katelynn’s house, said our goodbyes and hit the hay. It was late, and we had both had long days, so we were ready for some sleep.
The next morning, we got up and put on our costumes for the trunk-or-treat event at the day care where Katelynn works. Our group had a Winnie the Pooh theme. Katelynn was Eeyore, her teacher friends dressed up as Winnie the Pooh, Tigger and Piglet, and they decided I should be Christopher Robin. We were there from 1 to 4 p.m., then had to rush out to make it back to campus for the play Radium Girls.
We made it to the show, and it was amazing! My roommate, Alec, and another friend, Cam, were both in the production, so it was great getting to see them perform. All the actors and actresses had different accents they had to pull off, and all of them were very convincing. The show itself was very sad, but it had some comedy mixed in to break things up, which I loved. Katelynn and I both really enjoyed it!
After the show, we headed back to my apartment and watched Disney Pixar’s Coco. I forgot how emotional that movie is, too. Between the play and the movie, it was a very emotional night! Afterward, we watched some YouTube and talked until a ridiculous time before finally heading to bed.
The next morning, we got up around 9 a.m. to meet our friends Camryn and Nick at Cedar Point. We arrived around noon and headed straight for our first ride, Blue Streak. It’s probably one of the smallest, oldest and most unsteady-feeling roller coasters you could pick at Cedar Point. However, Nick is afraid of heights, so we had to start somewhere.
When we got off the ride, Nick told us it was terrible and that he didn’t know if he could handle anything bigger. We told him that it was just because the ride was so rickety and that the other roller coasters would be better. That didn’t make him any less scared, but we still managed to get him on Gemini, Rougarou, GateKeeper and Maverick.
As we were leaving the park that night, Nick told us his favorite ride was either Rougarou or Maverick. I think we actually got him to like roller coasters a little more!
Once we got to Camryn’s car, we stood around talking while she tried to start it. Unfortunately, the car wouldn’t start. Katelynn and I had driven separately, so I was going to jump-start their car. However, with everyone leaving the park, the employees wouldn’t let me into the accessible parking area where their car was. We ended up having to wait for a Cedar Point truck to come help us.
While we were waiting, we got a whole show of our own. Some guy in a big truck drove straight into a road divider, got yelled at and had to pull over into our parking lot. So, at least we had some entertainment while we waited!
Eventually, a Cedar Point employee showed up. Luckily, it was just a battery issue, so he jump-started the car, and we were finally on our way.
We wanted to hang out a little longer before saying goodbye, so we stopped at the closest Dairy Queen for some ice cream. Once we finished, it was time to leave. We all said our goodbyes, Katelynn headed home with Nick and Camryn, and I headed back to campus.
It was another busy weekend filled with fun and chaos, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
