Fall Break
My only two classes on Friday got canceled, so I had a free day. Around noon, I met my roommate Alec for lunch, then we both went over to help the musical theater majors sell donuts to raise money for their fraternity. We ended up selling all the donuts and making a pretty good profit.
After that, I drove home, and to my surprise, my Grammy and Aunt Pat were there. They live a few hours south, so we don’t get to see them very often. We had pizza, watched movies and played card games until about 3:30 a.m.
The next afternoon, I headed to Cedar Point to meet up with Alec and some friends. Little did I know, it was going to be the worst drive to Cedar Point I’ve ever had. I got rerouted three different times, and each route was supposedly going to save me time. Instead, each one added about 10 minutes to my drive. When I finally got to the gate, the line was horrendous. Once I got in, I had to park in the very back of the parking lot because it was so packed. I don’t think I have ever seen Cedar Point so busy.
When I finally met up with the group, we watched a show directed by a friend and ONU musical theater alum. After that, we rode Millennium Force before heading to The Conjuring House, one of the haunted houses at Cedar Point. Two ONU musical theater alumni were part of the haunted house, so we wanted to check it out. It wasn’t too bad because we had a guide telling us what to do and where to go the whole time. However, in every room, there was a point when all the lights would cut out, and when they turned back on, we would get jump-scared. There were also a lot of cool effects that made the experience awesome.
After the haunted house, we got food from a burrito bowl place, then went to a murder mystery musical that was actually really good and funny. We finished the night by riding Steel Vengeance and Valravn before the park closed. We didn’t get to ride too much because almost every wait time was at least two hours, but we still had a great time.
From there, I headed to my girlfriend Katelynn’s house in Medina, where all our friends were waiting to say hi. We hung out with them for a little bit before they headed out. By that point, it was about 2 a.m., and Katelynn and I were both exhausted, so we passed out pretty quickly.
We slept in pretty late Sunday. When we finally got around, we went to Dunkin’ for breakfast sandwiches and donut holes, which were delicious. Then we went grocery shopping with Katelynn’s two brothers, Cameron and Carson. When we got back to the house, we baked cookies and watched a movie before falling asleep.
On Monday, we met our friends Camryn and Nick at a pumpkin patch. We took pictures, went through a corn maze and had the best hot apple cider I’ve ever had. Then we went to Applebee’s for dinner and Culver’s for ice cream. After that, we went to Meijer just to walk around, but of course, Katelynn and Camryn found the Squishies, so Nick and I bought them some. Eventually, our hangout came to an end, and we headed home. Katelynn and I cleaned her room and watched YouTube before going to bed.
The next morning, I had to say goodbye because Katelynn had to go to class, and I was heading home again to see my family and watch my brother’s soccer game. Unfortunately, on the way home, I got pulled over for speeding.
The speed limit was 35 mph, but there was so much traffic on the right side of the road that I didn’t see the school zone sign. I didn’t slow down until there was a break in traffic and I could see the school. That was when I thought, “Uh-oh, this is probably a school zone, and that would explain why everyone is slowing down.” I hit my brakes, but it was too late. The officer told me I had been going too fast before I slowed down, so I guess if I had slowed down a little sooner, I might have dodged a ticket. On top of that, I had almost made it home, which made it suck that much more.
Once I got home, I went with my parents to my sister’s cheer award ceremony, then we all headed to my brother’s soccer game. This was the most insane game I had been to in a while. For some reason, the entire crowd was sitting in the same stands instead of having separate home and visitor sections. Because of that, our parents and their parents and student section spent the whole game arguing, yelling at each other and screaming chants back and forth.
Even after we scored, they they still had stuff to say, so of course we had to continue to give it back. When the game ended, we thought the bickering was finally over, but as we were leaving the stadium, they started booing us. At that point, we all just thought it was funny because we had already beaten them on their turf. Plus, the game didn’t even matter for them because their record was so bad that even a win wouldn’t have moved them out of the bottom of the league.
After the game, we went back home; I packed up and headed back to campus. Minus the speeding ticket, I had a great fall break!
This sounds like an awesome fall break! It's nice to get to see family and hang out with friends. Again, I'm so jealous of the Cedar Point trip. I've only been once, but it's one of my favorite theme parks I've ever gone to, and I love their live entertainment, so I bet it was all super cool.
